I have an interesting app idea that I'd be willing to share with you if you'd be willing to split the profits. I know nothing of coding or publishing apps, but I think from what your apps have been able to generate, my idea (GPS location based) would be worth considering. email me if you would be willing to hear it.

Himanshu - you can get answers to most of those from Microsoft's own web site or Google. For the ones you can't get answers to, I'd also be interested in knowing the answers!

Olivier - I'm basically pasting the XML reports into a simple spreadsheet. I'll write another blog post about this and include the spreadsheet.

Jakub - thank you! Do you really think there are more Windows Mobile apps per user than there are on Android? I think WM's market share is still significantly above Android's (although who knows whether this encompasses WM5 phones without the Marketplace app) and their marketplace seems to contain a lot fewer apps.

Great post Chris. I got almost the same thoughts after selling my game in Marketplace called "Tangram Pro". And like you I'm thinking about changing platform to android. Java is very similar to c#. Only Eclipse isn't that good like Visual Studio. But still in my opinion Microsoft is way to concentrated at Windows Phone 7 instead of marketplace. Last but not least you shouldn't worry about ratio of aps on Android, on windows mobile is more :)

Hi Chris,

I have found your article pretty interesting as I am working on a report on Mobile Applications. I am a Researcher, for your information.

I have a few queries, and would be glad if you would help me in my study.
My Queries are as follows:

1. Are there any warnings available on the downloading device that will prevent a user from downloading an application that goes beyond device capabilities?

2. How does an application downloader pay for a paid application?

3. Can a customer download a paid application from Windows Marketplace for Mobiles and have the charges billed to his/her carrier/operator bill?

4. Generally, how long does a user store an application on his/her mobile handset before deleting the application?

5. Does Windows Marketplace for Mobiles have an integration or tie-up with the app stores of carriers/service operators?

6. Can you suggest some sites where technical or application-marketing related information is available? (Apart from the Microsoft owned/sponsored sites)

7. Does Microsoft sponsor any Developer Challenge? If so, how many developers participate?

Eagerly awaiting your response.
You can directly send in your response or contact me at hpatel.bk@gmail.com
